What Has Delayed a Report on the Status of the Economy?

During an exclusive interview with President Obama, CBS News anchor Katie Couric asked why the administration has delayed a Congressionally-mandated report on the status of the economy.

"Are you concerned it would too distracting while trying to get health care reform?" Couric asked.

"I actually asked my budget direct Peter Orszag about this, and has says that on election years it's always delayed a month or two, just because folks have too much work. We have to immediately prepare a budget," Mr. Obama said.

"There's a lot of people have said, 'Ah ha!'" Couric replied.

"There are constant conspiracy theorists at work here," Mr. Obama said. "This is apparently fairly typical that takes a few extra months in the first year after a new administration, because you're scrambling to put together a budget after only having been in office a few months."
