What About Those Short Oscar Nominees?

You say you haven't seen this year's nominees for best animated short film? We're here to help.

Following the links below you can see trailers, interviews with the filmmakers, and in some cases the complete film.

"I Met The Walrus" matches fanciful pictures to the words of former Beatle John Lennon, who was interviewed by a 14-year-old boy with a tape recorder back in 1969. What Lennon had to say is as thought-provoking now as it was back then.

And, as it happens, from Russia comes "My Love," the 19th century story of a wistful adolescent in love with two very different women. The animation style? Oil painting on glass, a frame at a time.

The complete film on YouTube:
Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.
(In Russian, no English subtitles)

(National Film Board of Canada)
By contrast, "Madame Tutli-Putli" is a darkly comic look at a shy woman's journey, never far from the baggage of her past.

And from France comes "Even Pigeons Go To Heaven," a parable about the price of paradise.

Animated shorts all these nominees may be, but the folks who made them clearly are not short of artistry.
