Weight Off with the Early Show, Part 7

To get the most out of any weight-loss plan two things must happen: You must watch what you eat and exercise. Even 10 minutes of exercise three times a week can improve health and help shed unwanted pounds. The participants of our series have all begun to add exercise to their routine. In Los Angeles, we check in with 26-year-old Aishia Mester, who had not exercised much before our plan, and has recently stepped up her gym routine from 3 days a week to 5 days a week.

Research indicates that a person needs only to lose 5% of their body weight to reap some rewards of improved health. So a 5% weight-loss goal is absolutely realistic. Add exercise to the mix and feeling good and looking good begins a win-win situation.

Our weight-loss-plan expert, Dr. Louis Aronne, an obesity specialist at New York Presbyterian Hospital, says that the road to successful weight loss is absolutely a two-pronged one: Watch what you eat and expend energy through aerobics and weight training.
