Watching and Listening to the Web

RealNetworks has been a pioneer in delivering streaming audio and video on the web and has been more than holding its own against MicrosoftÂ….

"Well there are about 150 million people worldwide on the Internet and 85 million of those are registered RealPlayer customers. They watch and listen to thousands of different web sites, in fact over two thousand live audio and video 24 hour stations and hundreds of thousands of web pages that offer on demand programming."
RealNetworks founder Rob Glaser With a new version of the RealPlayer just out, the company is introducing a service to help users find the content they're looking for.

"First, in terms of finding and organizing, we're launching a brand new real.com web site that brings together all the different resources including personalized access to content, searching, directory services, all under the Real.com umbrella."
All the major networks, including CBS, offer content for the RealPlayer. Veteran ABC newsman Sam Donaldson has a weekly Internet only show. He expects the online audience to grow to TV proportionsÂ…

"It's mainly the techies who are onto all of this and they have it and they're using it and that's a wide audience. But eventually, I think the world wide web, the Internet, is going to be the transmission belt for all data."
Including, Donaldson adds, TV.
