Reports: 2 University of Louisville football players shot amid Heisman celebrations

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two University of Louisville football players and a cheerleader were shot early Sunday morning while celebrating sophomore teammate Lamar Jackson’s Heisman Trophy win, local media reports.

The three were at an off-campus apartment when gunfire erupted, reports CBS affiliate WLKY.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, just hours after Jackson became the first University of Louisville player and youngest person ever to win the Heisman Trophy, college football’s most prestigious individual honor. A sophomore who lives nearby the shooting scene told local news station WHAS students had gathered starting Saturday night to celebrate.

Officials told WLKY the two players and cheerleader suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All were being treated at a hospital.

Senior Joseph Shoulders told WLKY he heard the shots.

“My roommate comes busting into my room, and he says ‘Did you hear that?’” Shoulders told the station. “He says people are outside screaming, and so we went and looked out his window. We could see like 10-15 people running and screaming.”

No arrests have been made in the case.
