"Twin Peaks" cast members rally to get David Lynch back for reboot
"Twin Peaks" without David Lynch is like....fill in the blank.
Filling in the blanks is what a lot of the show's cast members do in a new compilation video released following word that the show's co-creator had bowed out of a "Twin Peaks" reboot.
Sheryl Lee, Catherine E. Coulson and Madchen Amick are among the many stars who appear in the clip in which the actors can be heard saying that "Twin Peaks" without Lynch is "like a girl without a secret" or "like a log without bark."
There's even a Change.org petition that's gaining traction, as well as a hashtag (#SaveTwinPeaks) that's making the rounds.
Lynch recently announced on Twitter that he would be stepping out of the role, citing money issues as the reason. Lynch, 69, says he didn't feel as though he could do the script the way "it needed to be done."
"Twin Peaks" ran for two seasons on ABC from 1990-1991. It took home three Golden Globe honors in 1991, including best TV series and best actor for Kyle MacLachlan, who announced in January he would be reprising his character in the sequel. MacLachlan, though, didn't appear in the video.
The network said it was "saddened" by Lynch's statement but still hopes to resurrect "Twin Peaks" with both Lynch and his co-creator, Mark Frost, on board.
Showtime previously said the limited-run series, set in the present day, would film this year and debut in 2016.
Ray Wise, who portrayed Leland Palmer in "Twin Peaks," told CBS News last year that it was among his most memorable roles.
"I had an opportunity to do some amazing things on that show that I don't think they've seen before or since...It was a wonderful experience, a great cast again -- and David Lynch made it very special," he said. "People still talk about it and sometimes when they write a review about a new show they'll mention that it's 'Twin Peaks'-like. That will never die, really."
Wise, for one, hopes Lynch returns for the reboot, too:
