WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (CBS/KPIX) A 24-year-old transgendered woman has been charged with murder for the stabbing death of her 54-year-old boyfriend Alan Gray during a domestic dispute.

Akira Tajah Jackson - who is biologically male and changed her name from David Gavin at the age of 19 - is charged with murder with an enhancement, for using a knife to kill Gray at his Walnut Creek home last Thursday, deputy district attorney Barry Grove told CBS affiliate KPIX.

According to The San Francisco Chronicle, Jackson met Gray about a year and a half ago while she was dancing at Diva's nightclub in San Francisco.

Although the nature of the fatal argument is unknown, Grove told KPIX that the couple had a quarrelsome past and appeared to be having another conflict that morning.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Gray was aware of Jackson's transgender identity.

Walnut Creek police say they were called to Gray's home Thursday morning around 9:20 a.m. in response to a domestic dispute. When they arrived at the scene, they found the victim out front suffering from a stab wound, a broken nose and a bruised face, reports The Chronicle.

Gray was transported to John Muir Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Jackson was arrested at the scene and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail at the Contra County Jail.
