Tom Ridge: Trump is an "embarrassment" to GOP, the country

Former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said Wednesday that Donald Trump is an "embarrassment" to the Republican Party and the country.

At a Manchester, New Hampshire campaign event for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Ridge dismissed Trump as a serious presidential contender.

"I think Donald Trump is about celebrities, he's about publicity, he's not about bringing a serious mindset toward trying to address the wide range of security challenges in this country," he said.

Ridge, who supports Bush for president, said he would never vote for Trump.

"I think he demeans the process," he said. "I just think he's an embarrassment to the party, he's an embarrassment to my country."

Ridge said Trump's plan to ban all Muslims from entering the U.S. "feeds into the ISIS narrative" and said "time will tell" about how the Republican Party will get rid of him as a candidate.

Ridge served as Homeland Security secretary under President George W. Bush from 2003 to 2005 and previously served as the governor of Pennsylvania.
