(CBS) Actress Tilda Swinton recently said, "It's a bloody business, being a parent."

We at "Eye on Parenting" couldn't agree more.

But Swinton, who was talking about her role in her new movie "We Have to Talk About Kevin," isn't just talking in the abstract. The actress not only plays a mom in her new movie - receiving rave reviews at Cannes - she also is one.

In her new movie, Swinton plays the mom of a 15-year-old sociopathic mass murderer. In real life, she has teenage twins - a boy and a girl. Different? Not really, Swinton says. She told reporters following a press screening of the film Thursday in France that she sees real-life parallels between her life as a mom and her character's experiences.

"It's a truly, truly murderous business, giving birth," Swinton said. "Even more frightening is she's giving birth to her own violence."

The movie is based on the best-selling novel by Lionel Shriver.
