Thousands of Pounds of Marijuana Hidden Inside Railroad Tanker

(KCBS)

LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) Thousands of pounds of marijuana were found hidden inside a petroleum railroad tanker on the morning of July 12. Authorities say they were led to the rail yard in Los Angles after a long police chase that began the night before.

Police officers gave pursuit Sunday night when a car driving erratically down the road refused to pull over, say police. The vehicle eventually turned into the rail yard where the three suspects jumped out of the car and were arrested by authorities.

An oily substance was found on the suspects' clothing and subsequently a bundle of marijuana, covered in the same material, was discovered in their vehicle. Police Detective Gus Villanueva said the officers were then led to the nearby tank car.

Investigators used Fire Department ladders to reach the hatch atop the large railroad car and police proceeded to remove the thousands of pounds of marijuana from the interior of the oil tanker, lowering the petroleum covered bundles to the ground in a bucket.
