"The Simpsons" character set to die in upcoming episode
Ay, caramba!
One of the many familiar faces from Springfield is facing impending death.
"The Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean recently told reporters at a press conference that staff writers have been "working on a script where a character will pass away," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"We are doing this story for the same reason we do all others -- we think it has a good emotional through line," Jean told THR on Tuesday. "The story will be produced this year though it may air in season 26."
The creative team has killed off several characters before during the animated series' 24-year-run, Bleeding Gums Murphy and Maude Flanders being among them.
Details are scarce so far on who exactly will die this time around, but Jean did reveal that the character is voiced by an actor who won an Emmy for the series.
That narrows down the possibilities to a list that includes series regular Hank Azariaas well as guest stars Anne Hathaway and Kelsey Grammar, who plays the now-classic recurring villain, Sideshow Bob. There's also four-time Emmy winner Dan Castellaneta, who voices Homer.
"The Simpsons" airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
