The Road To Super Bowl XXXIV
Tennessee defeated Buffalo 22-16 Jan. 8 to open the NFL playoffs, and Washington manhandled Detroit 27-13 in Game 2.
On Jan. 9, Dallas fell to Minnesota 27-10, keeping alive the futility streak of 8-8 teams in the playoffs. Miami, led by a resurgent Dan Marino, stunned Seattle 20-17.
The top seeds, who had first-round byes, started play Jan. 15. Jacksonville ended Dan Marino's Super Bowl dreams, hammering Miami 62-7. Tampa Bay followed with a 14-13 comeback win over Washington.
The Rams were rude hosts, topping Minnesota 49-37 in St. Louis Jan. 16. Indianapolis still has some growing up to do, losing to the Titans 19-16.
The Titans earned the right to be the AFC's representative in the Super Bowl Jan. 23 by capitalizing on Jacksonville mistakes and posting a 33-14 victory in the AFC Championship Game.
The NFC will be represented by the St. Louis Rams, who won a defensive battle with Tampa Bay, 11-6, in the NFC title game.
In a Super Bowl contest that was anything but anti-climactic Sunday, St. Louis scored a touchdown with just under two minutes remaining and then held off one last Tennessee surge to defeat the Titans 23-16.
