"The Punisher" pilot ordered by Fox
(CBS) Comic book adaptations aren't just coming to the big screen - they'll be coming to your television soon. FOX just ordered a pilot based on Marvel Comics' "The Punisher," according to Deadline.
Many will remember the comic book's three film adaptations, also called "The Punisher," which were released in 1989 and 2004, and "Punisher: War Zone" in 2008. "The Punisher" series is about the adventures of Frank Castle, a vigilante who uses extreme measures to combat crime.
According to Deadline, however, the television show will be about a New York Police Department detective by day, vigilante crime fighter by night. The show is set to be an hour-long detective procedural. MTV's Josh Wigler wondered if the show would be an earlier version of Frank Castle, before all the tragedies including the death of his family befell him.
FOX has also commissioned scripts for another comic book-to-television series, "The Spectre." The network also had the DC superhero-based "Human Target," which was cancelled after the second season. At ABC, two other comic-based projects, "Hulk" with Guillermo del Toro and David Eick and "AKA Jessica Jones" with Melissa Rosenberg, are in development, Deadline reported.
