The Ballad of Sarah Palin

(AP)
In honor of Sarah Palin stepping down as Alaska governor on Sunday, Hotsheet decided to have some fun in looking back at the ups and downs of her year. Check it out below.

Sarah from Wasilla is
stepping down this weekend.

Some people think that she is great
while others, off the deep end.

It's been just one small year, recall
since John McCain did tell us

The shining star from way up north
was joining his campaign bus.

5132045At first no one could quite decide
how Palin's pick would play

Would she help keep Obama, now
from going all the way?

Her speech at the convention
played well with all the faithful

The Democrats were nervous and
it's fair to say ungrateful.

But Palin was a risk, they knew
untested in the spotlight

a woman whose selection just
might look wrong in hindsight.

And soon came all those headlines;
the tabloids had a field day

Bristol, Levi, Trig and Todd
thrust in amid the fray.

Not that Sarah needed them
to fascinate the masses

Those winks and smiles held our gaze
And yes, of course, those glasses.

But it wasn't always rosy, no
and soon there came a scandal

Questions swirled about her clothes
would she fly off of the handle?

In interviews she hoped to charm
instead she fared quite badly

She couldn't say which magazines
she read - you know, exactly.

And Tina Fey offered an
impression that was dead on

Sarah tried to laugh it off
but Tina was too strong.

November, then, the voters spoke
and back home she returned

She could see Russia once again
but still she felt the burn.

So soon she said the time had come
for her to step aside

To run a state it had been great
but her heart was now her guide.

The people said, "Well wait, we think
you really shouldn't go."

But Sarah said she'd be more use
in places with less snow.

Now voters pose the question of
what Sarah will do now

Is Palin still a player or
could this they not allow?

(AP)
America will no doubt stay
fixated on her actions

Red and blue divided in
the same old warring factions.

Will she become the president
or have to soon post bail?

Land herself a talk show
or perhaps just learn to sail?

The future is uncertain now
but that's nothing to fear

If nothing else she'll always know
That sure was quite a year.
