Spielberg Loses Kidney

Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg has undergone surgery to have his kidney removed after an "irregularity" was discovered, his office said Monday.

CBS News Correspondent David Dow reports a Spielberg spokesman said that the 52-year-old director was at home recuperating after the operation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. "A complete recovery is promised and no follow up treatment is necessary," Spielberg's office said in a statement.

Spielberg directed Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, The Color Purple, Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire of the Sun and Amistad.

Last month, the Director's Guild of America announced Spielberg will receive its Lifetime Achievement Award on March 11.
