Spice Girls musical set to open in London
The Spice Girls, who were such a hit when they reunited over the summer for London Olympics closing ceremony, will be together again for the opening night of a musical based on their songs.
"Viva Forever,'' featuring the songs of the Girl Power group, opens Tuesday night at London's Piccadilly Theatre. The members of the 1990s girl group -- Baby (Emma Bunton), Sporty (Melanie Chisholm), Scary (Mel Brown), Ginger (Geri Halliwell) and Posh (Victoria Beckham) -- are all expected on the red carpet.
The show was written by "Absolutely Fabulous" comedian Jennifer Saunders, and produced by Judy Craymer, who was behind the ABBA musical "Mamma Mia!"
The musical uses Spice Girls songs including "Wannabe" and "Spice Up Your Life" in a story about what happens to four friends when their band enters an "X-Factor" type TV competition.
