Specter To Appear On "Face The Nation"
CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent and "Face The Nation" host Bob Schieffer will talk to Specter about his decision, which paves the way to a filibuster-proof majority for the Democrats in the Senate.
Specter says he chose to switch parties both because of the rightward shift of the GOP and his grim prospects for getting past Pat Toomey in the closed Republican primary in Pennsylvania.
President Obama and Vice President Biden welcomed Specter into the Democratic Party at a White House event this morning.
Specter has vowed to vote his beliefs, not according to his party, but he seems to be welcoming the Democrats' embrace: The senator today turned to the president and said, "I think I can be of assistance to you."
