Singer Tells 'A Love Story'
Some people wear their hearts on their sleeves, but few people would share their story of love found and love lost like Vivian Green does on her debut album, "A Love Story."
Green visited The Saturday Early Show's's Second Cup Café to perform songs from the album.
At 23, Green is already a music-business veteran. At 8, Green took up the piano. At 11, she wrote her first song. At 16, she was writing professionally for other artists. And by 19, she was singing backup for Boyz II Men, and, later, Jill Scott.
Green says she was raised in Philadelphia with music as an important part of her life. She says her mother sang jazz and spirituals to her as a child all the time.
As a result, she spent most of her time singing. As a young teenager, Green performed in front of hundreds, sometimes thousands, of people. At 18, she surprised music enthusiasts with her knowledge of popular standards such as "Bye, Bye Black Bird," "Ipanema," "Misty," "All of Me" and "Moondance."
Green played wedding receptions and banquets before she started singing back-up vocals for Jill Scott. Soon she was signed to Columbia records.
Green wrote all the songs for her debut album. She says they reveal her early life's ups and downs, an autobiographical rumination on a relationship gone wrong, learning to love yourself and then finding true love. Her first single, "Emotional Rollercoaster," was written when Green was going through a rough time with her boyfriend.
