LOS ANGELES (CBS/AP) The man convicted of stalking gymnast Shawn Johnson has been sentenced to a California mental hospital for five years.

Robert O' Ryan was previously deemed legally insane after traveling across the country with weapons in his vehicle to the California studio where Johnson was performing last year on "Dancing With the Stars."

Prosecutors allege O'Ryan drove from Jacksonville, Fla. to Los Angeles, because he wanted to meet Johnson and harbored a dangerous obsession to marry the Olympic gold medalist.

O'Ryan, however, claimed that he traversed the country because voices told him that she was in danger and in need of protection.

After O'Ryan was detained, a search of his car revealed he was packing heat, specifically a handgun and a shotgun.

According to The Los Angeles Times, O'Ryan told detectives that he first began following Shawn Johnson, whom he nicknamed "Sturdy Girl," during the Beijing Olympic Games. He also claimed he communicated with other celebrities using telepathy.
