Sen's Web Site Contained Hidden Phrases
A Web site for U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison contained hidden phrases including "rick perry gay."
As a result, Gov. Rick Perry's campaign is accusing the Hutchison team of being slanderous and of setting a negative and divisive tone.
"A campaign's behavior is a reflection of the candidate," Perry spokesman Mark Miner told the Austin American-Statesman. "Senator Hutchison should be ashamed and embarrassed."
Hutchison campaign officials said they bought a tool that generates the phrases to find out the most frequent Web searches using the two gubernatorial candidates' names.
"No campaign is in control of what comes up on Google or what other people are searching for," Hutchison spokesman Hans Klingler told the Austin American-Statesman.
Hutchison spokesman Jeff Sadosky said Hutchison's campaign was not condoning those words and did not know thousands of people would be searching for them. He said they would be removed from the site.
The two Republicans are running for governor in next year's GOP primary.
