Scott Sterling, son of Los Angeles Clippers owner, found dead of apparent drug overdose, police say

(CBS) MALIBU -- The son of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been found dead in Malibu, reports CBS Los Angeles.

The station reports that Sheriff's Homicide Detectives were called to an apartment around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on a welfare check and found the body of 32-year-old Scott Sterling inside.

"Sheriff's Homicide and Los Angeles County Coroner's personnel at this time believe that Sterling died of an apparent drug overdose," Deputy Guillermina Saldaña said.

An autopsy is pending. No additional details were released.

In 1999, Sterling was accused of shooting and injuring his 19-year-old childhood friend, according to CBS Los Angeles.. No charges were filed in the incident.

Scott was not involved with the Clippers organization other than being the son of the owner.
