Sam Smith: "It has been horrible sitting in silence"

Sam Smith will soon be back in action.

The Grammy Award-winning singer recently underwent vocal cord surgery, which left him unable to talk, he says, for three weeks.

But now the 23-year-old English crooner is on the mend and gearing up to return to touring next month.

"As you can see, I can speak, again for the first time in three weeks, and it has been horrible sitting in silence and knowing that I should be doing shows has killed me," he said in a video posted on Twitter this week.

His tour will pick up again starting July 3.

"Absolutely cannot wait to perform live again, thank you all for waiting for me!!" Smith wrote.

He told his fans to "please bear with me, as always."

Smith was forced to postpone his tour so he could undergo a procedure on his vocal cords last month.
