(CBS/AP) Police in Illinois say a 16-year-old boy arrested in a January home burglary told them he poisoned the victims' three goldfish because he "didn't want to leave any witnesses."

Sgt. Mike Hernandez of the Arlington Heights police tells the Arlington Heights Daily Herald he's a little disturbed by the comment the youth allegedly made to his two accomplices during the Jan. 24 break-in.

Hernandez says the 16-year-old is charged with residential burglary and cruelty to animals, while a 15-year-old Arlington Heights boy and a 17-year-old from Des Plaines face residential burglary charges.

All three will be tried in juvenile court.

Police say that when the residents returned to their apartment they found that someone had killed their goldfish by pouring hot sauce and other condiments into their water.
