RNC And MoveOn.org - Hey Pot, Meet Kettle

Republicans attacked Democrats and MoveOn.org all day for the liberal group's ad in The New York Times today calling Petraeus "General Betray Us." So what does Republican National Committee Chairman Mike Duncan do tonight:? He turns it into a fundraising appeal.

"The radical liberals have taken over the Democrat Party. As The New York Times recently reported, Democrat leadership aides participate in a conference call with left-wing groups - including MoveOn.org - every morning to coordinate their efforts" Duncan wrote in a fundraising e-mail sent out earlier this evening.

"Now, MoveOn.org is openly attacking our generals and troops. This week they ran full page newspaper ads attacking the integrity of our top military commander in Iraq, General Petraeus, as he was testifying before Congress. And, the Democrat  leaders have said nothing. Nothing! Are they complicit in these attacks by their silence?"

"This kind of malicious and despicable attack cannot stand -- and we must fight back."

And you ask how the RNC will do that? It's easy - just give them some money.  "Please make an urgent online contribution of $1,000, $500, $100, $50 or $250 to the RNC today to help us set the record straight and elect Republican candidates who support our troops fighting to protect our nation and win the War on Terror," Duncan wrote.

It gets worse. Here's the postscript: "P.S. President Bush and Republicans are committed to supporting our troops in harm's way as they fight to protect our nation and win the War on Terror. Please help the RNC answer loathsome attacks from groups like MoveOn.org with a secure online contribution of $1,000, $500, $100, $50 or $25."

So who is worse - MoveOn.org for running the ad, or the RNC for hyprocritically trying to raise money from the controversy surrounding the ad? I am not really sure. My guess is that it's a sleazy tie on this one.
