(CBS) Did Golden Globes 2011 host Ricky Gervais kill it Sunday night? Or did the British comedian die out there with jokes that cut too close to the bone?

Gervais came out swinging at all kinds of targets:

  • The Tourist: "It seems like everything this year was three-dimensional... except the characters in The Tourist."
  • Introducing Robert Downey Jr.: "Many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail..."
  • President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assocaition which hosts the Golden Globes: "I had to help the HFPA president off the toilet and pop his teeth back in."
  • Movie "I Love You Phillip Morris": It was about "two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay - so the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists, then."

Gervais is the comedic force behind "The Office" and the movie "The Invention of Lying." The 49-year-old also has a Golden Globe on his mantle, although it's not clear if he will be invited back any time soon.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Did Ricky Gervais go too far or give the show a dose of adrenaline?
