(CBS) Anne Hathaway is apparently taking her role as Catwoman very seriously.

The actress accidentally gave a stuntman a black eye while filming the Christopher Nolan's latest Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises."

British tabloid The Sun reports that Hathaway gave the stuntman "a whopping shiner and a splitting headache" when she hit him in the eye with the butt of a gun.

"Anne got a bit carried away during a fight scene and mistakenly shoved the butt of the gun right into the actor's eye socket," a source told the paper. "He came away with a massive black eye - Anne was mortified."

"It was all in good humor but the poor guy took quite a pummeling," another source added.

She was so upset about the mishap, according to the report, that she bought the man a silver pen as an apology. She had it engraved with the message, "Remember no one packs a punch like Anne."

"The Dark Knight Rises" is scheduled to be released on July 20, 2012.
