(CBS) On Friday, Red Hot Chili Peppers announced it will play a series of dates in Europe in the fall beginning Oct. 7 in Cologne, Germany. Earlier this month, the band announced its new record, "I'm With You," will be released  Aug. 30.

After a nearly five-year hiatus during which time the members embarked on various side projects - among other things, bassist Flea went to school and drummer Chad Smith recorded an album with Chickenfoot - the band has been busy, presumably perparing for a lengthy period of activity. Flea was in the news earlier in the week when he listed his Malibu home for sale.

Singer Anthony Kiedis recently told Rolling Stone magazine, ""There is no question - this is a beginning." Josh Klinghoffer replaced longtime guitarist John Frusciante in 2009.
