Police Interrogation: Toddler Cries, Then Dies

INTRODUCTION
Seattle, WA. January 17, 2005
Thirteen-year- old, Ashley Howes was thrilled to have her first real babysitting job taking care of Freya Garden. But after crying all day, the toddler began to strain for breath and slumped over. Ashley called 911, but it was too late. Freya died of a head injury. Police immediately suspected that Ashley Howes –not the mother or her boyfriend--shook the baby to death. They questioned her without her parents or a lawyer present.

CONCLUSION
Ashley Howes was tried for second degree murder. After the judge ruled that her interrogation was inadmissible, the prosecution asked him to dismiss the case and he agreed. Howes can never be retried for the death of Freya Garden.
