Polaroid In Pictures; Bit Behind
Well, finishing a story about Polaroid for tomorrow's CBS Sunday Morning program on money issues ended up taking more time this week than I expected -- not that I'm complaining -- so the blog took a back seat. We spent time viewing the company's archives now located at Harvard Business School, as well as getting a tour of the Polaroid office in Boston and talking with the man who designed the famous pixel-esque logo. His comments might surprise you. The company has fallen on hard times in the past several years, and recently announced it will stop producing its instant film. Our story aims to look at both the rich history and uncertain future of the iconic American firm founded by Dr. Edwin Land in 1937. The ultimate question being: What's in a name? I hope you'll watch.
Incidentally, the teleportation story landed on the CBS Saturday Early Show today (sometimes with teleportation it's hard to know where you'll end up), and I'll see if I can get it streamed here next week. Fascinating potential for high-tech, classified information as we chat with cosmologist Max Tegmark from the MIT Department of Physics. Also, when I get a chance I do intend to comment further on the Microsoft-Yahoo!-[insert company here] discussion. It seems to be constantly in flux so there's always more to say.
In the meantime, it's back to completing the Polaroid piece...we'll see what develops from there. Oh, and speaking of time -- no excuse for being late with this clock.
