People's Choice: Star Wars

The force was with "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith," which was named favorite movie and favorite movie drama at Tuesday night's 32nd annual People's Choice Awards.

" 'Star Wars' is fun, its exciting, its inspirational, and people respond to that. Its what they want," director George Lucas told The Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman backstage, after the show.

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and TV star Jennifer Garner also won multiple awards. Garner, of TV's "Alias" and the action movie "Elektra," got the nod for female action star and female TV star.

DeGeneres was honored as favorite daytime talk show host and funny female star, the same awards she took home last year.

Johnny Depp again was named favorite male movie star, although Sandra Bullock took female honors over Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman. Last year's winner, Julia Roberts, wasn't in the running.

Bullock seemed surprised she was chosen, telling the audience, "I think you picked the wrong person, but I'll take it, I'll take it."

Later, she observed to Kauffman, "It's one of those good runs in life where everything just sort of clicked, and then you start panicking that its all too good.:

Brad Pitt returned as favorite leading man.

On TV, the favorites included "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "American Idol" and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" - all repeats.

And an old favorite was a double winner: Not only was "Everybody Loves Raymond" picked as favorite TV comedy, Ray Romano was voted favorite male TV star. He tried to share the moment with his twin sons.

Later, when Kauffman suggested the show's cast members genuinely liked each other, Romano kidded, "And that's why it didn't get any juicy publicity. That's what kept us down!"

"My Name is Earl" was named favorite new TV comedy and "Prison Break" won for favorite new TV drama after votes cast over the Internet during the live telecast were counted.

In the music category, Jessica Simpson picked up the award for favorite song from a movie, for "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'," as performed by Simpson in "The Dukes of Hazzard."

Simpson admitted to Kauffman that she does browse through supermarket tabloids on occasion, but "just to see the pictures."

The People's Choice Awards were presented at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and broadcast live on CBS.

The nominations were determined by editors at Entertainment Weekly, the People's Choice production team and a panel of pop culture fans. Winners were determined by Internet voting.
