One Direction cancels concert after Liam Payne falls ill

Liam Payne of One Direction broke hearts on Tuesday when the band members announced last minute they had to cancel their Belfast concert because Payne had fallen ill.

The band made the announcement at 9 p.m., when most concertgoers were already inside the venue -- even the opener had already performed, reports the Independent.

Fans booed and cried when they were told to leave. Concert promoter Aiken PR said: "The show tonight has been cancelled as Liam has taken ill, and whilst not serious, he is unable to perform tonight."

Lead singer Harry Style tweeted: "Deepest apologies to everyone at the show tonight in Belfast. Very disappointed, but unfortunately these things happen. We're very sorry."

And band mate Louis Tomlinson wrote on Twitter: "We're so so sorry for what happened tonight, it was out of our control! Lots of love to Liam and thank you for being so understanding!"

A spokesperson said Payne was not seriously ill.

The band will go on to play its scheduled Wednesday and Thursday night concerts, and ticket holders from Tuesday's canceled concert will be able to attend on Friday.

"Last night's concert will be rescheduled for this Friday 23rd October," said the concert's promoter. "All tickets from last night's postponed concert will be valid for Friday."

Those who cannot attend the rescheduled show can receive a refund.
