Obama Health Care Home Invasion

(CBS)
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBS/AP) The unsuspecting homeowner thought she was just letting a doctor in the house. But prosecutors say the man who came to her door wearing a stethoscope had only ill intentions.

The result, they say, was an armed robbery with two people getting shot at the Long Island, N.Y. residence.

Prosecutors say a man posing as a physician, and a woman holding a clipboard, claimed to be distributing pamphlets on President Barack Obama's health care plan Aug. 29, when a woman in Huntington, N.Y. opened her door and offered to take a pamphlet. That's when the pair allegedly forced their way inside the house and demanded money.

The suspects then shot the woman in the foot, and the woman's boyfriend in the neck, chest, shoulder and back, authorities say, alleging they also pistol-whipped the woman's mother.

Then the intruders made off with $4,000, say prosecutors.

The suspects and two alleged accomplices pleaded not guilty Monday to robbery and assault charges.

Police were looking for a fifth suspect.
