No jail for "pastry perp," community service instead in Boston cannoli caper
(CBS) BOSTON - An Irish tourist accused of stealing a cannoli from a Boston bakery at knifepoint will serve no jail time provided he stays out of trouble for the next nine months, CBS Boston reported.
Police say shortly after Robert McTernan landed in Boston for a vacation, he walked into a North End bakery, grabbed a knife, and demanded a cannoli. An employee handed one over, and the "pastry perp" took off.
The case will be dismissed assuming McTernan performs 50 hours of community service, undergoes substance abuse treatment, and stays out of trouble for the next nine months.
Lucky for Tiernan the judge was a bit of a cream puff himself.
