Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger on vocal rest, must undergo surgery

Nickelback's tour has been put to a halt.

Frontman Chad Kroeger is on vocal rest after being diagnosed with an operable cyst on his voice box. According to his reps, the Canadian rocker will undergo surgery in three weeks.

"I am sorry I have to interrupt the party this summer and I am definitely not thrilled with the prospect of being silent for many weeks to come when I could be out there playing for our fans" Kroeger, 40, said in a statement. "I am relying on my doctor and his team to help get my voice back in good form as quickly as possible."

Nickelback scrapped shows last weekend with the hopes that Kroeger would get better. When that didn't happen, the band decided to pull the plug on all 34 of the remaining concerts scheduled on the American leg of his tour.

Good news for Nickelback fans: The singer's medical team anticipates a full recovery. If all goes as planned the tour will resume with Nickelback's previously scheduled European run, in Helsinki, Finland, on Sept. 30.

Kroeger is the latest in a string of musicians with vocal cord issues, including Sam Smith, John Mayer and Adele.
