(CBS/AP) CONCORD, N.H. - A woman who tried to excuse her excessive speed by telling a New Hampshire state trooper she was rushing to her dying father's side was later charged, after the trooper discovered her father died five years ago!

WMUR reports that 28-year-old Carley Williams of Nashua was stopped for doing 82 m.p.h. on the Everett Turnpike. She told the state trooper her father was dying at a Manchester hospital and she was hurrying to be with him.

The trooper took down her information and let her go, but learned upon further investigation that her father died in 2008. He also learned the car's registration had been suspended.

Police say the trooper went to Williams' home -- obituary in hand -- and arrested her Sunday.

Williams is charged with driving after suspension of registration and speeding, according to the station. She is due in court in August.
