New iPhone 4S disappoints, but maybe it's not so bad?

iPhone 4S may offer plenty of new features and improved but a few key upgrades are missing. Apple

(CBS) - In case you're suffering from an iPhone hangover, let's recap what we learned yesterday...

There's no iPhone 5. Boo!

But, the iPhone 4S, which comes out October 14, is still better than no update, upgrade or improvement at all. Right? (Help me convince myself, here.)

At a glance: the iPhone 4S vs. older iPhones

In creating the new iPhone 4S, Greg Joswiak, vice president of iPhone product marketing, had asked, "How do you improve on something that's so extraordinary?" This video sums up the new iPhone's improvements, as well as Siri, a new way to interact with your iPhone using just your voice.

Okay, so it's not that disappointing. For argument's sake, say there were never any rumors of an iPhone 5 at all. What if the tech gossip demons only talked of the iPhone 4S? Would you be as upset as you are now? It's all about expectations. The hype around some of these rumors made us want this upgraded gadget that may or may not have even existed.

I've been waiting for the iPhone 5 for a long time, too. Just how long? I am still using a BlackBerry. (Don't judge me, jerks.) I was holding out on getting an iPhone until I was due for a new phone on my contract with Verizon. That time came over eight months ago. I could've gotten an iPhone 4 then, but I decided to stick it out a little longer with my purple Curve. I was waiting for something greater - the iPhone 5.

I'd scour iPhone news stories (and even write some myself). I read countless rumor roundups, analyzed the probability that an iPhone 5 really was to become a reality...

And now, ugh, there's no iPhone 5. It's like someone reached into my heart and ripped it out. My boyfriend calls the new iPhone's debut, "iPhone4Suckers." Is he right?

I've waited long enough though, so I will shell out for the iPhone 4S - begrudgingly. I'm sure in time, I'll learn to love it - well, until the iPhone 5 comes out.
