Nets Get Muresan For Rest Of '99

Gheorghe Muresan signed with the New Jersey Nets Monday for the final two games of the season.

The 7-foot-7 center has not played in more than two years due to injuries. He missed this entire season after undergoing back surgery this past June and sat out the entire 1997-98 campaign because of a stretched tendon in his right ankle.

Muresan was Washington's second-round pick in 1993. He played four seasons for the team, averaging 10.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.

By signing him before the end of this season, the Nets can re-sign Muresan without salary cap restrictions.

New Jersey plays at Washington Monday night and concludes its season Wednesday against Milwaukee.
