Mud-covered body of hiker found in L.A. County
GLENDORA, Calif. - Authorities say the body of a man was found covered with mud and debris in the San Gabriel Mountains north of Glendora.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says a hiker found the dead man near a trail, just south of the Bridge to Nowhere in the Angeles National Forest on Saturday.
A sheriff's team extricated the body Sunday afternoon.
A hiker said he was on a trail Saturday afternoon when he came upon a man looking for his friend believed to have gone missing in the area. They later found the body in the course of their search.
It's unclear how long the body, which has not yet been identified, has been in the hills.
CBS Station KCBS reports investigators are trying to determine if the body is that of a hiker reported missing when a storm slammed Southern California on Tuesday and dropped a record-breaking amount of rain.
"It's a sad situation," James Kuykendall -- one of the men who found the remains -- told KCBS
Medical examiners will determine the cause of death.
