Mother Killed Twin 3-Year-Old Daughters, Set Fire to Apartment, Say No. Calif. Police

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (CBS/AP) Police say a Fairfield mother stabbed her twin 3-year-old daughters to death before attempting to take her own life, and set fire to her apartment.

Firefighters found the children's bodies around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at the apartment in Solano County after responding to reports of a fire, and extinguishing the blaze.

Police say the mother, whose name has not been released, was also inside the apartment with what appeared to be self-inflicted stab wounds.

She was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Her injuries are said to be non-life threatening.

According to CBS affiliate KOVR, police believe the woman may have intentionally started the fire to cover up the crime.
