Miami Releases Jordan After Arrest

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Charles Jordan, charged with beating a police officer during a scuffle outside a South Florida nightclub, was cut by the team within hours of his arrest.

Jordan, on injured reserve after undergoing groin surgery last month, was released from police custody on $1,625 bond Saturday after being charged with trespassing, battery on a law enforcement officer and two counts of resisting arrest.

By nightfall, the Dolphins waived him.

"We'll let the judicial system run its course, but he has no future with this team," coach Jimmy Johnson said.

Jordan was arrested about 2 a.m. Saturday after Fort Lauderdale police were called to the Iguana Cantina. Told he would be arrested if he did not leave voluntarily, Jordan replied, "Well, I guess you'll have to arrest me," Det. Mike Reed said.

Three officers attempted to handcuff Jordan, but he held them off by throwing elbows, a police report said. Jordan was sprayed with a Mace-like substance, but was subdued only after a club employee joined the effort.

Jordan started the Dolphins' season opener against Indianapolis, but was demoted the following week. He later tore a tendon in his left groin and was placed on injured reserve. He caught two passes this season for 17 yards.
