Mayor of Stockton, Calif. has car towed from parking spot labeled "MAYOR", report says

(CBS) STOCKTON, Calif. - Anthony Silva, the mayor of Stockton, Calif., had his car towed from his own designated parking spot over the weekend while the wedding of a fellow council member was taking place at city hall, reports CBS Sacramento.

The mayor's car was reportedly parked outside Stockton City Hall, just steps from where the wedding was being held, right in front of a sign specifying it as a tow away zone.

After the wedding, Silva posted the following status on his Facebook page:

"My car was parked in the spot that says MAYOR. All someone would have to do was call me, text me, email me or Facebook me...I did not know that people can rent or borrow city hall."

City workers were sent a memo about the wedding months ago, including a warning no one would be allowed to park around the building, the wedding planner told CBS Sacramento in a phone interview.

CBS Sacramento says it tried to call the mayor, who was on his way back from Southern California. The station reported that Silva said he would call back when he got back in town, but never did.

Silva did send well-wishes to the newlywed council member on his Facebook status update, before he deleted it.

"I want her to have a good wedding. Everyone deserves to have memories that last a lifetime on their wedding. But someone just should have called me, that's all. They know that it is my car," he wrote, according to the station.

According to CBS Sacramento, Mayor Silva was cited for parking in a 'no parking' zone.
