Manhunt in N.C. for suspect in slaying, sex assault, robberies
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Police in Raleigh are looking for a man accused in a killing, two robberies and a sexual assault.
Police said Tuesday that 21-year-old Kendrick Keyanti Gregory of Raleigh is charged with murder, assault, robbery and rape.
Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said 64-year-old Thomas Melvin Durant was killed at his pawn shop around 7 p.m. Monday. Police think Gregory was involved in the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl shortly after Durant was killed.
Gregory is also charged with robbing Durant and another man who was attacked earlier Monday. Police believe Gregory robbed 27-year-old Lenin Alvaringa outside a hotel and shot him in the back, reports CBS affiliate WRAL. Alvaringa was taken to a hospital, but information about his condition hasn't been released, reports the station.
Police believe Gregory may have stolen a white 1994 Toyota Corolla on Tuesday with North Carolina license tag CJJ-3773, according to WRAL.
Gregory has reportedly been arrested eight times since September 2013 on charges including misdemeanor larceny, trespassing and breaking-and-entering. He is considered armed and dangerous.
