SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine (CBS/AP) Police and firefighters in Southwest Harbor, Maine, blocked off the police department parking lot after a man arrived with a grenade Friday, seeking advice on what to do with it.

The Bangor Daily News reported the man left the grenade in his truck when he went inside to talk to police.

The parking lot was blocked for three hours.

Police weren't sure if the grenade was live or not, but State Police Trooper David Barnard said they would destroy it...which he safely proceeded to do.

Police Chief David Chapais said the man who showed up with the grenade had found it among his deceased brother's belongings.

Chapais advised people to call the police first before attempting to touch or move such an item.

Now that's good advice.
