LulzSec spokesperson "Topiary" arrested in U.K.
(CBS) - A 19-year-old man believed to be linked to hacking groups LulzSec and Anonymous was arrested today in the Shetland Islands.
The arrest was the result of a "pre-planned intelligence-led operation," said a statement from Scotland Yard. The young man, whose nickname is "Topiary," isn't the only person of interest. A 17-year-old male in Lincolnshire is also being investigated, although no arrest has been made.
ZDNet reports that "Topiary" is believed to be the owner of the Twitter account @LulzSec, which is the main outlet for the group's announcements. The account's tweets were usually taunting authority figures or dispelling rumors of arrests. As of now, it has been several hours since @LulzSec posted on Twitter.

LulzSec claimed its first series of hacks in early May, leaking what it said was a database of "X Factor" contestants and attacking Fox.com. It subsequently broke into the website of the U.S. Public Broadcasting Service, posting a phony story claiming that dead rapper Tupac Shakur is actually alive in New Zealand. The hack came after the broadcaster aired a documentary seen as critical of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. That was followed by cyber-takedowns of websites operated by Sony Pictures Entertainment, Atlanta chapter of a Federal Bureau of Investigation partner organization called InfraGard, the United States Senate and, most famously, the Central Intelligence Agency's public website.

Anonymous was born out of the popular image board site 4chan. The group and its spin-offs, including LulzSec, have gone on to hack the CIA, Arizona Law Enforcement and Rupert Murdoch's newspaper The Sun. Most recently, the group is calling for followers toboycott the online payment company PayPal.
