Like Beauty, Truth Is Also In The Eye Of The Beholder

Since last Friday, PE has received over 100 e-mails on two topics we've recently touched on – the "60 Minutes" interview of former FBI Director Louis Freeh and an appearance by correspondent Mike Wallace at an event for the Brady Center. Despite our best efforts to explain the kinds of organizational efforts behind the complaints.

But sometimes, examples speak louder than words. So, here are two e-mails representative of the two topics jamming up our in-box:

"When Richard Clarke appeared on 60 minutes CBS included a full rebuttal interview with a Bush administration official—far more time than CBS gave to Clinton's national security adviser. Why the double standard? Doe CBS bow to extreme right wing pressure or is it self induced censorship? Either way this is not 'fair and balanced' journalism, is it?"
"I see that Mike Wallace spoke at a Brady Bunch fundraiser recently. And CBS News sits by and lets it happen. Why? Because CBS supports the Brady Bunch's anti-gun message. Wallace's anti-gun bias has been obvious to me since the early 1980s. ... That's why I stopped watching CBS when I was a kid. Even as a 7-year-old child, I could hear the anti-gun bias in CBS' tripe that is humorously called 'news.'"
It's a rare political animal that "bows to extreme right-wing pressure" and carries an "anti-gun bias" at the same time. Then again, these are interesting times.
