Knox on new guilty verdict: "This has gotten out of hand"
SEATTLE - Amanda Knox says that she is “frightened and saddened” by her second conviction, handed down Thursday by an Italian court, for the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher.
In a statement released following the court’s guilty verdict, Knox calls the second conviction “unjust."

“I expected better from the Italian justice system," she said.
The court found Knox and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, guilty of killing Kercher in her Perugia apartment in November 2007. The court sentenced Knox – who is in Seattle – to 28 years and 6 months in prison. Sollectio, who attended the trial, was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
This was Knox and Sollecito’s third trial. Their initial conviction was overturned by an Italian appeals court. Italy’s highest court later dismissed the appeals ruling and ordered yet another trial.
“This has gotten out of hand,” Knox said. “I beseech those with the knowledge and authority to address and remediate the problems that worked to pervert the course of justice and waste the valuable resources of the system.”
