Knicks Make Moves

The New York Knicks, who are heading into training camp not knowing when injured center Patrick Ewing will be ready to play, signed free agent Andrew Lang on Tuesday.

The Knicks also requested waivers on 18-year veteran Herb Williams, who played in just six games last season, his seventh with New York.

The 6-foot-11 Lang is an 11-year veteran who averaged 3.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 21 games with the Chicago Bulls last season. No details of his contract were disclosed.

"We are extremely happy to add Andrew to our roster," Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "He's a solid defender and a good rebounder who will provide us with great depth in the frontcourt."

Lang, who played collegiately at Arkansas, was a first-round draft pick by Phoenix in 1988 and has played with Philadelphia, Atlanta, Minnesota, Milwaukee and Chicago.

The 37-year-old Ewing is coming off two injury filled seasons, including last year when he missed the last nine games of the Knicks' run to the NBA Finals because of an Achilles' tendon injury.

Williams, one of the most popular Knicks with the fans, is one of just eight players to play 18 seasons in the NBA.
