SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS/AP) Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson was once a NBA basketball star, but it is now a San Francisco thief that is keeping him on his toes.

Johnson says he was robbed over the weekend as he was helping an elderly man.

In a blog posting, the former sports star says he lost a suit, a pair of shoes and some personal items during his trip to attend a conference with representatives of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Johnson reportedly saw a man struggling to carry bags near San Francisco's Union Square on Saturday evening, and set aside his own belongings for less than a minute to put the man in a taxi. When he turned back to get his things, they were gone.
