(CBS News) Katy Perry released a music video for "Wide Awake," from her hit album "Teenage Dream," in which she reflects on her life in the spotlight in a fairytale setting.

Pictures: Katy Perry

At the beginning of the video, Perry is shown wrapping up shooting her "California Gurls" music video. The camera follows her into her dressing room as she stares at herself in the mirror. Then the singer transports into a world that is a cross between "Snow White" and "Alice in Wonderland."

Perry meets a younger version of herself, who follows her around throughout the video. The singer sees paparazzi reflected in a mirror at the end of the hallway, then the floor cracks and send the pair into what looks like a mental hospital. The girl stomps and scares away the monsters, which frees Perry from the hospital.

The two then are transported to a garden where Perry meets "Prince Charming," who she then punches in the face. In the end, the two fall from the fairytale and into the suburbs where the young girl hops on her bicycle and Perry goes out to perform in front of a large crowd.

The video is filled with symbolism from her own life. The 27-year-old has had a big year winning many awards for her "Teenage Dream" album, but she also went through a very public divorce with comedian Russell Brand.
