Police say 18-year-old Stathis Kirkpatrick was arrested as a person of interest in the case and remains in custody, although no formal charges had been filed.
According to CBS affiliate KOLN, Kirkpatrick was arrested Friday afternoon, but police have not said how he's connected to Kailee, who was reported missing from her home in McCook about 7 a.m. Friday.
"Details of the investigation, circumstances of the arrest and photographs of Kirkpatrick are not available at this time," according to a press release obtained by the station. "...disclosure of the information would likely interfere with the ongoing investigation..."
A body was found late Friday in a field near Bartley, about 15 miles east of McCook in south-central Nebraska. Investigators said Saturday that they believe it is Clapp. Authorities haven't released information about the cause of death.
The girl's mother, Nora Clapp, said she last saw her daughter, the youngest of three children, about 9:30 p.m. Thursday as she was getting ready for bed. Her 18-year-old sister saw her about an hour later, the mother said.
Nora Clapp said her daughter was a freshman at McCook High School and wanted to be a photographer when she grew up.
Kirkpatrick's bail has been set at $1 million pending an arraignment on Thursday.
